Anne Makes Lovely Candles Candle Safety and Burning Tips

Candle Safety and Burning Tips

Getting the most out of your Anne Makes Lovely Candles Candle

Welcome to a world of exotic scents- a world of relaxation, candlelight, and the soothing sound of a crackling fire.

At Anne Makes Lovely Candles, we want you to experience the maximum enjoyment and pleasure from our candles. Anne Makes Lovely Candles take great pride in making them using only the finest quality ingredients and materials. However, it's very important that you burn candles responsibly to ensure their safe use. Please follow these guidelines to keep Anne Makes Lovely Candles' candles a bright and beautiful part of your life. When your Anne Makes Lovely Candles' candle has finished you can reuse the glass jar and base as a posy vase or storage jar.

  • Prior to lighting, remove and discard packaging.
  • Keep burning candles within sight at all times, never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep burning candles away from flammable materials and out of reach of children and pets.
  • Keep wick trimmed to about ¼" at all times.
  • If smoking occurs, extinguish the flame, re-trim the wick to about ¼", remove trimmings and relight.
  • Only burn candles in or on suitable holders and place them on heat and fire resistant surface.
  • Do not place candles on or near other heat sources, and never directly on furniture.
  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches or any combustible material. Try to keep the wick centred.
  • Place your candle in an area free from draughts to discourage dripping and smoking.
  • Extinguish candles with care, as wax may splatter.

  • Glass Containers are fragile, handle with care. Avoid glass-to-glass contact when handling the lid, and don't use jars that are cracked, chipped or scratched.
  • Discontinue use when about ½" of wax remains, as glass may shatter. Do not refill jars with wax.
  • Do not allow the flame to touch the side of the jar, as it may become hot. Handle carefully.
  • Minimize the wax left on the sides by burning the candle until the wax pool reaches the edge of the jar (this can take up to three hours).
  • It's normal for a thin film of wax to remain, and the amount varies per colour, fragrance and burning environment.
  • Extinguish carefully before replacing the lid.

  • Do not burn in an enclosed space like a potpourri pot.
  • For the purpose of combining scents use a tart warmer.
  • Be sure the burner is well ventilated.
  • If wick smokes or builds up carbon, extinguish flame and remove the carbon before relighting.

  • Votives are made to liquefy, burn them only in appropriate containers and holders, and never burn free standing.

  • Place solid wax potpourri in the top of a dry tart warmerand never add water.
  • Light one of the scented soy wax tea lights, for a controlled low flame made especially for tart warmer. When melted, the wax potpourri will release its wonderful fragrance.
  • To change fragrance, extinguish the flame and allow the melted solid wax potpourri to harden.
  • Gently tap the sides of the warmer and in most cases the wax will pop out.
  • Discard the melted wax potpourri or store in a plastic bag for reuse.
  • If using an electric potpourri pot, we recommend that you use one that is listed for safety assurance.
  • Do not use metal objects to clean wax from warmer as this may crack or damage unit.
  • Do not use warmer if chipped or cracked.
  • Warmer may become hot while in use. Do not touch or move until cool.

  • Candles are sensitive to UV-light and temperature, so be careful when storing them for any extended period of time. Avoid colour fading, melting or cracking by storing candles in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight or fluorescent light.
  • Storage temperature should not be allowed to exceed 27°C - 80°F or fall below 0°C - 32°F. Exposure to moisture may inhibit relighting.
  • Follow these guidelines when traveling as well, extreme temperatures in your car can easily melt or freeze your candles.

  • Should the mouth of a jar candle become blackened while burning simply extinguish the candle, allow to cool and carefully wipe the jar with a dry paper towel.
  • To avoid such blackening keep the wick trimmed to about ¼" at all times.

  • Anne Makes Lovely Candles uses Soy Wax in all it's candles. This can generally be cleaned from most non-porous surfaces with hot soapy water.
  • Due to the use of dyes and fragrance oils in our products, if there is a spill on untreated wooden surfaces, fabrics or other porous materials such as leather.
  • We strongly suggest you seek professional advice from cleaning experts such as carpet cleaners or furniture refinishers.

Our complaints ratio for Anne Makes Lovely Candles equates to between two and three in every thousand sold (0.3%), a sure sign that Anne Makes Lovely Candles are a top quality product.
The few complaints we have had were regarding the wick which would not stay lit. These candles were returned to us by customers and we tested them ourselves and agreed that they would not burn properly.
As the Cotton Wicks and Wooden Wicks are made from a natural organic substance, like most natural products, occasionally something is not quite right. In these cases we exchanged the candle for our customers.

We have had feedback about the wax drowning the wick and extinguishing the candle. This is because the candle had not been burnt for long enough for the wax pool to reach the sides of the candle and we considered this to be more of a user error than a fault. It is imperative the candle burns until the wax melts to the edge of the glass to get the maximum and most effective burn. We have burnt many of these candles in our house so do have first hand experience of them, and it is noy only our opinion they are a top class product, we have sold hundreds of candles to a growing customer base.

We too have noticed that sometimes there are pockets of air between the glass jar and the wax, this is not a problem and will not affect the quality or burn of your candle. All candles are sensitive to heat so slight shrinkage and expansion is to be expected.

If you still have questions about Burning Candles Safely, please contact us and we shall be happy to clarify any point.

It's so soft; you can even use it as massage oil when it's warm.

Good for you.
Good for the environment.
